Så var det dags att ta en titt på vad som dyker upp på de amerikanska seriehyllorna i augusti 2022.

Kommentar: Batmans skurkar dyker upp i var sin one-shot med titeln Batman: One Bad Day som presenteras i Prestige Format på 64 sidor. Först ut är Tom King och Mitch Gerads med The Riddler följt av Mariko Tamaki och Javier Fernandez med Two-Face i september. I oktober tar sig John Ridley och Giuseppe Camuncoli an The Penguin och i november Gerry Duggan och Matteo Scalera med Mr. Freeze och sista one-shoten för 2022 blir Catwoman av G. Willow Wilson och Jamie McKelvie. Totalt blir det åtta fristående nummer av Batman: On Bad Day där de resterande numren med Bane, Clayface och Ra’s al Ghul ges ut 2023.

Kommentar: Tecknaren Lee Bermejo har levererat en mängd minnesvärda Batman-omslag genom åren och nu har DC Comics sammanställt ett urval av dessa i en one-shot som dels är en konstbok samtidigt som bilderna bildar en mörk crime noir-berättelse.

Kommentar: Billy Batsons tvillingsyster Mary Bromfield har varit en medlem av Shazam-familjen sedan 1942 då Shazam gavs ut av Fawcett Comics och kallades Captain Marvel. Nu får den tidigare Mary Marvel axla broderns roll Shazam i en alldeles egen soloserie.

Kommentar: The Amazing Spider-Man fyller 60 år 2022 och Marvel Comics har bjudit på en mängd nya Spider-Man-titlar under året. Första gången Spider-Man dök upp på seriehyllorna i USA var i Amazing Fantasy #15 vilken var en antologititel från Marvel som tidigare gått under namnet Amazing Adventures och Amazing Adult Fantasy. Tidningen innehöll för det mesta science fiction och fantasy-serier och #15 var titelns sista nummer, men eftersom Spider-Man blev så populär fick han sin egen titel, The Amazing Spider-Man, 1963 som nu i år, påpassligt, nått fram till #1000 och dessutom försetts med sin ursprungstitel.

Kommentar: Damage Control är ett fiktivt byggbolag i Marvels universum som specialiserat sig på att rensa upp i ruinerna efter fighter med supermänniskor. Första serien dök upp 1989 och de är numera även en del av Marvel Cinematic Universum där de är en del av handlingen i Spider-Man-filmerna Homecoming och No Way Home samt i TV-serien Ms. Marvel på Disney+.

Kommentar: Chrissy Williams är mest känd som serieredaktör (bland annat på Kieron Gillen-titlarna Die och The Wicked+The Divine) medan tecknaren Lauren Knight dykt upp Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Det roligaste med deras gemensamma serie Golden Rage är nog själva konceptet som beskrivs som ”Battle Royale möter Pantertanter” och det verkar vara en serie med glimten i ögat som inte tar sig själv på för stort allvar.
MÅNADENS TIPS: LOVE EVERLASTING #1

Kommentar: På den digitala plattformen Substack finns det gott om härliga serier att läsa – bland annat James Tynion IV, Jonathan Hickman, Brian K. Vaughan, Jeff Lemire och många fler – och flera av dem dyker även upp som fysiska lösnummer hos förlagen. En sådan är Love Everlasting av Tom King och Elsa Charretier. Enligt Tom King var målet med serien att skapa ett verk med episka proportioner som utforskar hur myter och berättelser om kärlek fängslat mänskligheten genom historien (”Elsa and I are trying to create another Sandman” som King blygsamt uttryckte sig). Själv hoppar jag gladeligen med på protagonisten Joan Peterson oändliga romantiska eskapader i denna ”horror romance” som blir Månadens tips för augusti.

Kommentar: En av mina favoritserier från 2017 var tveklöst Shirtless Bear-Fighter och nu är det otämjda naturbarnet Shirtless äntligen tillbaka i vad jag hoppas blir en strålande fortsättning på denna lysande actionkomedi.

Kommentar: Garth Ennis verk är verkligen en blandad kompott och jag blev inte särskilt imponerad av den provocerande skabrösa James Bond-satiren Jimmy’s Bastards när den kom, och jag är måttligt sugen på fortsättningen.
